LAMMC researchers participated in events on advanced plant phenotyping technologies

November 22, the researchers of the Laboratory of Genetics and Physiology Dr Rita Armoniene and Dr Andrius Aleliūnas participated in the meeting of partners of the NordForsk-funded project “Upscaling crop performance monitoring by linking satellite and field biosignatures” (UPSCALE) in the Båstad city in Sweden. The meeting was attended by project partners from Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Lithuania. The partners presented the results of the field experiments of the first year of the project, discussed important issues of the project’s work package, in particular the analysis of the field data and the preparation of the field experiments for the next year. The project meeting was followed by two plant phenotyping events, which were also attended by the director of the LAMMC Dr Gintaras Brazauskas.

November 22–23, the last NordPlant annual meeting/seminar “The future of plant phenotyping” took place, and November 23–24, the 8th seminar of the Nordic Plant Phenotyping Network (NPPN) was held.

Advanced plant phenotyping methods and technologies are important to accelerate the development of plant varieties, precision agriculture and thus reduce the use of pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers in the context of climate change, geopolitical and demographic challenges. The NPPN network, which includes the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry, connects scientific institutions and companies, especially breeding companies, in the development and application of the latest plant phenotyping technologies and contributes to efforts to ensure food self-sufficiency and sustainable agriculture in the Nordic and Baltic countries.
